Christians are people who wait and hope. We don’t see everything that we have in Christ now – much is kept in heaven for us. This Sunday we are encouraged to look to Christ in whom we have all we need to persevere.

Marathon runners need to persevere over many hours. Like a long running race the Christian life requires perseverance for the long haul. Hebrews Chapter 10 turns our eyes on to Jesus, our high priest and precious sacrifice to inspire us to persevere.

Jesus is everything that we need. He offers Himself for our forgiveness. He advocates for us at the right hand of the father. What a blessing to belong to Him!

Jesus is better! Better than anything we might try to replace Him with. In the passage today Jesus brings a better covenant: For he finds fault with them when he says: “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah (Hebrews 8:8) Now, in Christ, God’s people will love him and serve Him with all their heart.

Jesus is better than the Jewish priesthood. The priest in ancient Israel had the wonderful task of helping God’s people draw near to him. He would offer sacrifices, teach the people God’s word and pray for them. Jesus advocates for us in heaven itself, sitting at the right hand of the Father.

This Sunday at Tregear we will be gratefully reflecting on the sacrifice of Christ for us, His people. What a gift that Jesus, King of Kings, gave His life for us! This will be a great way to anticipate Christmas day, when we will celebrate the birth of our saviour.

Series: Jesus is Better!
Our lives are cluttered with busyness: appointments, sport, meals, phone calls, bed times, cleaning. Our lives are cluttered with the urgent and sometimes there is little room left for the beautiful. The words of the writer to the Hebrews, written 2000 years ago are pertinent for us: God invites us to enter His ‘rest’. In Hebrews Chapter 4 ‘rest’ is the word given to God’s future plan for the world . Sounds good eh?

Series: Jesus is Better!
In different seasons of our Christian life, different passages of scripture become important. In difficult times for example we cherish Jesus’ words, ‘come to me all you who are weary…’ On the other hand at certain times in our lives a challenge is required. This Sunday at Tregear we are studying a confronting passage - a warning from the book of Hebrews, not to fall away from Jesus. There are times in all of our lives when we become lethargic in our attitude toward God, and even risk drifting away from Him. Hebrews Chapter 3 jolts us out of complacency; it confronts us with the greatness of Jesus, and then urges us to continue in Him for our whole lives.
