How Can You Be Sure Christianity is the Right Religion?

Published by Daniel under Sermons

Bible Readings: John 14:5-10; Romans 4:1-3

Preacher: Peter Crickitt

This Sunday we will address the question: ‘With so many religions in the world, how can you be sure Christianity is the right one?’  The challenge isn’t new. Jesus claim to be the unique Son of God, the Creator and Restorer of the world, has jarred with the competing claims of culture since the 1st century: ‘Into the Roman Empire of the first century, shaped as it was by the humanism, rationalism, secularism, and naturalism of the pagan Greek world, stepped Jesus of Nazareth. (Goheen and Bartholomew)’.

Yet those who encounted Jesus’ majesty and love, and whose eyes the Holy Spirit opened to see His glory, proclaimed with Thomas, ‘My Lord and my God’.

All humans are peoples have heard something of the voice of the Lord.” Herman Bavinck

Christianity and Science

Published by Daniel under Sermons

Bible Reading: 1 Corinthians 15:12-19

Preacher: Peter Crickitt

This Sunday Peter will be addressing the difficult topic of Christianity and science. People often face off Christianity and science. ‘How can you believe in Chrsitianity, when scientists all tell us that the world was created by evolution’, is a question I have been asked many times. I’m sure that this sermon will be very useful for us all.

Why Does God Allow Suffering?

Published by Daniel under Sermons

Bible Reading: Psalm 88

Preacher: Mark Glanville

This Sunday at Tregear we are continuing our series, ‘tackling tough questions’. We will be addressing the question: why does God allow suffering? Many people have said to me over the years : ‘I can’t believe in a God who just stands by and watches, while people suffer’. How do you reply to that question? Perhaps this is a question that troubles you yourself?

Are the Gospel Records Reliable?

Published by Daniel under Sermons

Bible Readings: Luke 1:1-4; John 20:24-31

Series: Tackling Tough Questions

Preacher: Mark Glanville

My school friend Jason wasn’t a Christian. And he asked the toughest questions of Christianity I had ever been asked. My mate Jason was smart, really smart. He was a competitive chess player, an avid reader, and a arch critic of Christianity. How could I tackle these powerful questions? Sometimes it felt like these questions would bowl me over, faith and all.He asked me questions like: what reasons do you have for believing that God exists? Or: why do you believe that the events in the bible happened? Or: If God is so loving, why is there suffering? Good questions. Great questions.

Have you ever been challenged like this? Have you ever been asked tough questions? Questions so big they make it hard to stay standing? I was asked only the other day: there are so many religions – how do you know yours is right? How will I answer that? These questions can make us nervous. Many people have said to me that the reason they are nervous about speaking about their faith is that they might be asked hard questions. Can you relate to that? Yet, if Christianity is true, and I believe it is, there will be helpful responses that we can offer to all these questions.

This Sunday we are affirming our love for Mt Druitt and Western Sydney and its people. This is the place that God has called us to live, to love and to serve. We will be viewing these today, as a way of expressing our heart for this area.
